Morris Animal Foundation, Forbidden Island and more

Posted: 15 Aug 2014 08:00 AM PDT

Have you seen the “Portlandia” sketch, “Put a Bird On It?” Well, that’s great advice for your print marketing. Putting animals on your postcards, business cards, brochures and other print marketing materials is an excellent way to get people to pick up your printed piece and look at it. Why? Because everyone loves animals. You know who doesn’t love animals? Psychos. And you don’t want psychos for customers anyway, am I right?

I’m not a psycho, so this postcard for the Morris Animal Foundation immediately caught my eye for this week’s “Hot Off the Press.” Look at that face! I want to pet this postcard and ask it, “Who’s a good boy?”

OK, enough about how adorable animals are. Here’s some cool customer artwork that grabbed our attention this week.

Print marketing is one of the most effective ways to promote your products and services. Return on investment, which creates profits, is the name the game, and one of the best ways to boost your return on investment is to lower your printing costs – of course, you should be leery of any abnormally cheap printing company, since it will likely print your marketing materials on inferior paper stocks and with inferior inks and finishes, which will put your return on investment at risk: customers simply respond better to premium printing, because its tangible qualities look and feel good in the hand, and it helps establish a sense of confidence in your company. Fortunately there are several easy ways to save hundreds of dollars on printing, listed below in this printing hack.

1.  Watch for discounts

Look for printing discounts on business cards, posters, flyers, postcards and other print marketing materials that can save you hundreds of dollars right off the bat. PsPrint, for example, routinely offers up to 60 percent off printing on a number of products.

2.  Print as many as you'll use

No matter what your project is, print as many pieces as you'll use in a single run. Since each print run incurs only one setup charge, your price per piece decreases as quantity increases. That means your return on investment for each piece is greater.

3.  Try alternative finishing, binding, and paper stocks

Carefully review your printing options to see if you can save money by selecting a different finish, binding or paper stock. A glossy paper stock might be cheaper, for example, or having a booklet stapled might be cheaper than having it bound with wire-O. Of course, you don't want to compromise the use and quality of your marketing materials, but if you can maintain quality and usability while reducing your investment, your return on investment will be greater.

4.  Have your printing company handle the mailing

Eliminate shipping costs for direct-mail pieces altogether by having your printing company handle the mailing. You can even use your printing company's bulk mail Indicia, which will save money on mailing. Your printer can also take care of addressing and enveloping; they it's a paid service your printer automates the process, so it's far cheaper than paying someone hourly to do it manually.

5.  Use the design gallery

Use the design gallery at PsPrint to skip having to pay a designer to create your marketing materials. Choose from hundreds of templates, then easily customize them with your own logo, image, colors and text right within the design gallery interface. Thus, you can give your marketing materials a custom branded look without having to pay a single design fee.
