Are Bumper Stickers Still Effective Marketing Tools?

Posted: 19 Feb 2014 05:00 AM PST

bumper-stickers

You're always on the lookout for ways to promote your company, especially if you can reach customers in areas your competitors aren't for minimal investment. One way to do this is by printing bumper stickers. Bumper stickers have long been staple marketing tools for nearly every type of business, but in today's digital world you might wonder whether bumper stickers are still effective marketing tools. They absolutely are, and here's why.

1.  Bumper stickers can reach thousands of people

A single bumper sticker can reach hundreds of people every day, thousands of people per week, and perhaps even millions of people over years, depending on how many miles it's driven and traffic density.

2. Creative bumper stickers command attention

Let's face it: the commute is a bore. That's why we have car radios and Bluetooth headsets. Traffic jams are even worse. As humans we crave interesting scenery, which is why the most creative bumper stickers are next to impossible to ignore.

3.  Bumper stickers last a long time

Many marketing materials are "one-and-done." Postcards, for example, are sent once. Bumper stickers, on the other hand, last for years – sometimes even decades – when they're printed on premium-quality paper stocks. That means your "cost per impression" becomes ridiculously low over time.

4.  Bumper stickers are cheap to print

You can print 1,000 bumper stickers on vinyl stock with UV coating for right around 68 cents each. Look for special 50 percent off deals on bumper sticker printing to minimize your investment and maximize your return.

5.  Bumper stickers are cheap to deploy

Printing bumper stickers is easy, but what about getting them on to actual car bumpers? You can put them on your own bumpers, of course, and you can give bumper stickers away to customers. You can also pay others to drive around with your bumper stickers on their cars or create promotion incentives; a pizza parlor, for example, might offer 10 percent off carryout orders for those who drive through with a company bumper sticker.

How to Promote Your Event with Postcards

If you are promoting an event, whether it's for a nonprofit organization, theater, community festival or other event, you can take advantage of the power of postcard marketing to drive up attendance and revenues. The following details how to promote your event with postcards.

1. Determine your postcard goals

What do you want people to do when they receive your postcards? If you're selling event tickets, you probably want them to purchase tickets by calling a number, visiting a website or scanning a QR code. If you simply want to get people to attend your free or gate-ticketed event, your postcard will serve as an advertisement to that end. The point is that you should know what you want people to do so you can focus every element of your postcard and design copy toward achieving your goals.

2.  Define your audience

Who will attend you event? What is their demographic makeup? For a community festival, it's probably just about everyone in a five-mile radius (or more). If it's a theatric performance, however, you likely have a rather distinct customer base comprised of people who share several demographic traits. Determine who your most likely attendees are, then create a demographic profile based on age range, gender, income, location and other data. These are the people you will market your event to.

3. Get a targeted mailing list

Next, use your demographic profile to rent a targeted mailing list made up of only those people who fit that profile – your event attendees. The better-targeted your list, the better your postcard marketing campaign will perform.

4. Craft compelling copy

Now that you know what you want to promote and who to promote it to, you can draft postcard copy that features the event benefits your targeted attendees will most likely respond to. Create desire through benefits, and add a time-limited incentive to encourage quick action. You might, for example, offer a 10 percent discount on tickets to those who respond by a certain date.

If your event is a freebie, offer a coolie cup or fan or some other branded incentive at the gate to those who bring their postcards with them. That way, you can track your response rate. Free or paid, don't forget a call to action that motivates response.

5.  Dazzle with design

Design is one of the last steps, but it's the first thing your targeted attendees will see when your postcard arrives. Incorporate attention-getting colors and vivid, interesting images to get noticed and draw potential guests into your copy. Your design will set the mood of your event and help create desire.

6. Print and send your postcards

Print your postcards on quality paper stocks to lend a sense of quality and even prestige to your event. The bigger the better, as large postcards command attention and make your event seem important. Keep an eye out for discounts on printing, as PsPrint routinely offers steep postcard printing discounts that can make your event marketing super-cheap.

7. Measure response

As mentioned, you need to incorporate a way to measure responses, whether it's through a coupon code or the presentation of the postcard itself. Record response so you can test it against future postcard event marketing campaigns; with a little experience, you'll be able to develop powerful can't –miss postcard marketing campaigns that bring people out in droves to your events.

How to Use Postcards to Promote Your Website

Owning and operating a successful website is one of the coolest jobs in the world, but in order to achieve online success you need to drive targeted traffic to your site in order to generate income. There are many ways to do this digitally; however, postcard-to-website marketing can be one of your greatest allies – especially since many of your competitors aren't engaging in it. Whether you sell retail products, services, or run an ad-revenue-based blog or other website, the following details how to use postcards to promote your websites.

Step 1: Define your audience

Online demographics make it easy to determine who your best customers, readers or more frequent visitors are. Use demographic data to create a "best customer" profile. Your profile should include such information as age, gender, location, career status, marital status and other demographics. Find those demographics shared by the top 5 to 10 percent of people who visit, read and buy from your website, and you'll know who you need to target with your direct-mail postcard marketing campaign.

Step 2: Get a list

If you don't have an in-house mailing list, you can rent a mailing list comprised of individuals who meet your "best customer" profile – your target demographic. Even if you have an in-house list, you can reach new customers, readers and visitors by renting a list. The better-targeted your list, the more successful your postcard-to-website marketing will be; in fact, the 40/40/20 rule of direct-mail marketing states that 40 percent of your success is directly attributed to the quality of your mailing list.

Step 3: Create a value offer

Your postcard marketing campaign is going to encourage customers to visit your website and then take some action once they do so (make a purchase, read a blog, enroll in a course, etc.). Give potential customers a powerful reason to do so by creating a special offer that gives them immediate value, such as a big discount, a buy-one-get-one-free offer, a free introductory course, or the promise of gaining useful insight or entertainment. Make your offer time-limited, showcase the benefits of visiting your website or buying from you, and deliver a compelling call to action to generate the greatest response rate.

Add in great copy, dazzling design and quality (yet cheap) postcard printing, and you'll be able to leverage the power of a great mailing list with a powerful offer to drive tons of traffic to your website. What other postcard-to-website marketing tips can you share?

Hot Off the Press: Printing for Valentine’s Day, Breweries and More

Posted: 13 Feb 2014 09:54 AM PST

Twas the day before Valentine's Day, and all through PsPrint, we were talking about print marketing – and what else? Here's a hint:

Chocolate and beer!

This week's "Hot Off the Press" features Valentine's Day marketing by PsPrint customers, including jewelers, chocolatiers and nonprofits. Red is such a striking color, so Valentine's Day promotions are some of the most eye-catching. Add diamonds to those brochures and flyers, and you're sure to get attention.

While candy is dandy, beer is what's dear to many of us at PsPrint. Last week's "Hot Off the Press" toasted San Francisco Beer Week printing, and the celebration continues this week, with even more of our craft-brewing customers.

Promote Your Personal Brand with Custom Mailing Labels

Posted: 13 Feb 2014 05:00 AM PST

DSC_0839

When we think of "brands," we often conjure images of corporate logos: Coca-Cola, Nike and Apple. Every company wants to brand itself as the best, and many companies invest a lot of money into promoting corporate brands. But what about investing in your personal brand? It shouldn't be an after-thought, especially when it comes to direct-mail marketing – which is why custom mailing labels can be powerful marketing tools.

Think about it: as the adage goes, customers buy from people, not companies. Forming personal relationships with customers is the reason salespeople exist. Moreover, having a trusted, well-recognized name – or personal "brand" – makes you incredibly valuable not only to your customers, but also potential clients and employers.

Look at all the television and radio personalities who have carefully constructed powerful personal brands, then used those brands to elevate their careers to the top. The Oprahs, the Stewarts, the Colberts, the Dr. Phils of the world all know a thing or two about the power of personal branding.

Now, apply that same idea to a basic direct-mail sales letter. An envelope bearing your personal brand will carry more weight than a generic envelope or even one that carries your company logo. Moreover, the repetition of that brand via subsequent direct-mail marketing campaigns, online marketing, and media appearances will make you a valued and sought-after expert in your field.

Printing mailing labels is cheap, yet can add enormous value to your personal branding efforts. Before you send your next sales letter, greeting card, invitation or other correspondence, invest in your personal brand by printing custom mailing labels. It's not being vain, it's doing smart business.
