25 School Fundraiser Ideas

Posted: 03 Sep 2015 05:00 AM PDT

1199576555_3989197abc-Optimized

Today's students and teachers rely on school fundraisers to purchase needed supplies and enhance the educational experience. Fundraising can be tough, even in the most supportive communities, so it's important to provide value and package your fundraiser with an attractive presentation that encourages community members to contribute funds. To that end, the following lists 25 school fundraiser ideas you can use to improve education for your students.

1. Sell discount cards

Ask local businesses to provide discounts to anyone who has your school's discount card. Print the deals on the back, your school artwork on the front, and have students sell them. Print flyers or brochures with order forms students can take door-to-door.

2. Hold a bake sale

This long-standing school fundraiser idea is tried-and-true; ask student families to provide bake sale items you can sell. Promote your event with posters, flyers, and banners.

3. Sell school stickers

Sell school spirit bumper stickers, sheet stickers, and custom vinyl stickers your community members and alumni can place anywhere they'd like. Print mini-catalogs on brochures to showcase your sticker designs and provide an order form for buyers.

4. Raffle a prize

Get a local business to donate a desirable prize, then sell raffle tickets to raise funds for your school.

5. Host a chili supper or pancake breakfast

Many schools host an annual event such as chili supper or pancake breakfast in which students, parents, teachers, and community members volunteer to do the cooking and guests pay for their meals as a means of donating to your school.

6. Sell custom greeting cards

Print greeting cards featuring your school's brand and sell them to raise funds for your school. Print sales sheets and order forms to make it easy for students to raise money.

7. Sell mums and other flowers

Work with a florist or flower wholesaler to get a volume discount, then sell seasonal flowers. Print order sheets students can take to family members and door-to-door to generate sales.

8. Hold a 5K

Races can be huge moneymakers, especially if you can offer a unique experience – such as with a 5K color run. Promote your 5K with posters, flyers, banners, and sign-up sheets.

9. Sell window clings

Local businesses and community members will be happy to proudly display your school's brand on their windows; print sales sheets students can use to generate window cling sales.

10. Hold a car wash

Another traditional school fundraising idea, but one that has a long track record of success. Make sure you take advantage of flyer printing and social media to promote your car wash.

11. Host a silent auction

Reach out to businesses in your community to solicit donations for a silent auction. Artwork, signed memorabilia, and vacation cruises tend to bring in a lot of dough!

12. Hold a father-daughter/mother-son dance

Organize a special dance with admission fees and sponsorships to raise funds for your school. Print special invitations to give to students and their parents.

13. Try a scotch doubles or family bowling night

Invite parents to compete in a scotch doubles bowling tournament; or include the entire family. Be sure to charge admission or work out a deal with the bowling alley to get a portion of receipts.

14. Hold a lock-in/parents' night out

Host students overnight at your school, complete with fun games, activities, and kid-friendly movies. Print special flyers that explain your event isn't just a lock-in; it's also a parents' night out – no sitter required!

15. Sell calendars

Print calendars featuring students and scenes from your school to sell to parents and grandparents. Send students home with an order form to generate funds for your school.

16. Run a physical education pledge-a-thon

Ask parents, grandparents, and family friends to pledge a certain amount per each jump rope jump, mile walked, or other physical challenge sponsored students complete.

17. Sell magnets

Print school magnets featuring students, your school logo, and even sports schedules, then ask students to sell them to parents and family members.

18. Sell cookie dough or popcorn

These popular fundraisers ask students to take catalogs and order forms door-to-door to solicit value-added donations.

19. Sell bricks

If you're raising funds for a capital improvement campaign or new building project, you can sell bricks or other memorial markers to be included in the construction. Print brochures and order forms to make it easy for students to sell bricks.

20. Host a rummage sale

Ask parents and community members to donate gently-used items for a rummage sale in which your school earns all the proceeds.

21. Host a restaurant benefit night

Partner with a local restaurant to have a certain percentage of each ticket donated to your school on a particular night, then distribute flyers to promote your fundraising event.

22. Hold a family scavenger hunt

Place fun, unique items throughout your community, in a local park, or around your school, then invite students and their parents to take part in your scavenger hunt. Get prize donations, charge a participation fee per-family, and promote your scavenger hunt with flyers, posters, and banners.

23. Sell coupon booklets

Similar to discount cards, you can sell coupon booklets featuring hundreds of dollars in savings donated by local businesses.

24. Auction gift baskets

Auction off gift baskets on Facebook to generate fundraising revenue for your school. Get items donated for your gift baskets to maximize your fundraising effort.

25. Host a family fun festival

Games, entertainment, petting zoos, and inflatable bounce houses make for a fun day families will be happy to pay to attend. Mail postcards to student parents or send home flyers to convince parents to attend.

School fundraisers can be the difference between offering a standard, low-budget education and a spectacular education that broadens student horizons and creates more opportunities. Of course, to be successful you have to get the word out about your fundraiser. Start planning your school fundraiser now!

25 Ways to Brand Your School

Posted: 01 Sep 2015 05:00 AM PDT

School branding is important to schools, students, and alumni for a variety of reasons. Well-branded schools enjoy better recruitment and fundraising, offer greater identity and advanced career opportunities for students, and lend pride and accomplishment to alumni. Whether you oversee a university, community college, high school, or even elementary school, you can benefit from good branding. The following lists 25 ways to brand your school.

1. Calendars

Sell calendars to alumni, parents, and students to raise funds for your school and get your brand prominently displayed.

2. Bumper stickers

Bumper stickers are fan favorites when it comes to showing school spirit.

3. Catalogs

You need course catalogs as well as catalogs for any fundraising merchandise you sell.

4. Window clings

For homes, dorms, and vehicles, window clings are easy ways to show off some school pride.

5. Locker stickers

If your students have lockers, you can highlight their achievements with locker stickers and locker magnets.

6. Banners

Place banners in prominent areas on-campus and throughout your community to demonstrate your school's local involvement.

image[17]

7. Flyers

Print flyers to promote fundraisers, events, and important announcements for students, parents, staff, and alumni.

8. Posters

Posters are perfect large-scale complements to flyers for event and fundraiser promotion.

9. Custom stickers

Print stickers to fit laptops, bicycle helmets, and other unique items that match your students' lifestyles.

image[19]

10. Name badges

Outfit staff members and faculty with branded name badges to make them easy for visitors and students to approach.

11. Coasters

Branded coasters can serve as excellent fundraisers for your school, and should also be available in student lounges as well as campus-owned diners.

12. Booklets

Print booklets to promote your school, special programs, athletics, clubs, and other features to offer an in-depth look at the benefits of your school.

13. Brochures

When you need more than flyers can offer but less than a booklet, brochures are the cost-effective way to go to promote your school, your students, and your activities.

14. Business cards

Every staff and faculty member should have business cards featuring your school's branding: logo, colors, fonts, etc.

15. Letterhead

All school communications should be sent on professionally-designed and printed letterhead featuring your school's branding.

16. Envelopes

Place your letterhead in envelopes for a branded presentation at the mailbox – it's a surefire way to make sure your audience notices and opens your letters.

17. Envelope seals

Sheet stickers can be printed as convenient and affordable envelope seals bearing your school's logo.

18. Magnets

Print promotional magnets to place on student, parent, and alumni refrigerators. One common strategy is to print magnets featuring a favorite sports team's schedule. Or, print car door magnets to promote your school wherever you go.

19. Pocket folders

Print branded pocket folders for your school to send out information packets to prospective students.

20. Invitation cards

Hosting a fundraiser, open house, or student visitation? Send invitation cards to targeted guests, emblazoned with your school's branding.

21. Hang tags

If you sell merchandise such as hats and shirts in your bookstore, you can print hang tags with your school logo to let students and parents know it's authentic.

22. Event tickets

Print attractive event tickets featuring your school's brand, and your tickets might find their way into framed commemorative photos that might be shared for decades.

image[18]

23. Memo pads

Give your office staff branded memo pads to make jotting notes with authority a cinch.

24. Menus

If you have on-campus diners or lunchrooms, you can print menus that feature your school's branding. Have a bit of fun and get creative with menu item names that match your brand.

25. Bookmarks

What better way to get your brand in front of students than to sell – or give away – bookmarks featuring your school logo?

As you might have noticed, this list is comprised of ways you can brand your school in print – one of the most effective branding mediums available. You should also consider digital branding opportunities such as your website and apps, and even how your brand dictates school philosophy, decision-making, and student services. After all, a great brand is more than a logo – it's a way of life.

Boost Campus Bookstore Profits with Stickers

Posted: 31 Aug 2015 05:07 AM PDT

books-691980_640-Optimized

If you manage a campus bookstore you know your shop is an important revenue stream your college depends on. Thus, you're always on the lookout for ways to boost profits and generate more income for your school. Stickers are cost-effective ways to market your bookstore products and specials to students so you can increase revenue. The following lists ways you can boost campus bookstore profits with stickers.

1. Highlight special sales

If you have special sales on textbooks and other merchandise, you can use stickers to draw attention to them. Print stickers that denote what the special deal is – a percent off, for example – and place them on your sale items. You can also use stickers to highlight the difference in pricing between new and used books.

2. Cross-sells and upsells

Place stickers on books and other merchandise to help you cross-sell and upsell at your campus bookstore. For example, a certain textbook might have a companion workbook, so you can place a sticker on the textbook reminding students to get the workbook, too – a cross-sell.

An example of an upsell opportunity might be a textbook that comes in two different volumes: a standalone book, and a book that comes with an online access code. You can place a sticker on the standalone book urging students to get the more expensive version containing the access code, which offers additional educational benefits.

3. Draw students in to your bookstore

Window clings can be strategically placed on your own windows and on windows throughout your campus to highlight special sales, remind students to get their books early or sell their used textbooks back to you (so you can resell for profit), or simply to showcase special merchandise they might want to buy.

4. Sell school pride

Many campus bookstores not only have books and other supplies, they also carry hats, bags, shirts, and other university-branded merchandise (including stickers like bumper stickers, window stickers, and more!). You can print stickers to place on textbooks and other supplies reminding students to show their school pride, and that they can get the school spirit supplies they need at your bookstore. Consider adding a coupon code to give your customers an incentive to buy from you.

5. Color coded coursework

Finally, you can employ a sheet sticker-based color coding system to make it easy for students to find the books and other supplies they need to complete specific types of coursework. For example, if a given biology cirriculum requires two books, an access code, and a workbook, you can affix the same color sticker on each item to show that they must be purchased together to meet course requirements. In this manner, students won't miss the materials they need and you'll be able to make all the sales at your bookstore.

The best part? Stickers are cheap to print, so they represent cost-effective ways to boost profits at your campus bookstore. Get started with sticker printing now!

5 Elementary Ways to Market Back-to-School Sales

Posted: 27 Aug 2015 04:59 AM PDT

apple-256261_1280-Optimized

The back-to-school season is a booming time for retailers; at the same time, a flood of eager customers also brings a heavy wave of competition. The key to maximizing profits lies in knowing how to effectively market back-to-school sales. The following lists five elementary ways to market back-to-school sales.

1. Postcards

Postcards are cost-effective ways to reach targeted customers one-to-one. Develop a mailing list comprised of your back-to-school audience (it can vary, but many retailers market back-to-school sales to women between the ages of 25 and 45 who have school-aged children). Then, create a postcard that doubles as a coupon or coupon code to motivate customers to take advantage of your special sales.

image[2]

2. Catalogs

Catalogs can be even more effective than postcards for back-to-school sales, since they allow both parents and students to flip through page after page of the latest and greatest clothing styles, school supplies, and gadgets they need to foster education – and look great while doing it. Again, a well-targeted mailing list is key to catalog marketing success.

image[4]

3. Banners

Place large format banners near high traffic areas, such as busy streets and intersections or in high-profile shopping areas. Banners can also be used outside your storefront and even in-store to direct customers toward your best back-to-school sales.

image[6]

4. Flyers

Flyers are cheap to print and make it easy to blanket a targeted geographic area with your back-to-school sales. Be sure to employ attention-getting design and, if possible, a tracking mechanism (such as an easy-to-remember coupon code) so you can measure flyer response.

image[7]

5. Hang tags

Hang tags work well once you have customers in your store as they can motivate extra, impulse buys. Print hang tags that draw attention to must-have add-ons, upsells, cross-sells, and/or special unadvertised in-store deals to yield the greatest number of buys.

image[8]

Marketing your back-to-school sales can be easy when you take advantage of the powerful tools listed here. Maximize your return on investment by printing quality postcards, catalogs, banners, flyers, and hang tags at discount prices. Start planning your back-to-school sales marketing campaign now!

How to Print Eco-Friendly Brochures for Your School

Posted: 25 Aug 2015 05:46 AM PDT

10435706823_f403648ab1-Optimized

Every school needs to print brochures to promote academic and extracurricular activities, recruit students, and otherwise share important information with students and parents. At the same time, educational institutions understand the need to be as environmentally-friendly as possible – it's important to do your part to save the world you're teaching your students to thrive in, after all. The good news is you can balance your need to print quality brochures without deviating from your green agenda. The following details how to print eco-friendly brochures for your school.

Print brochures on 100% recycled paper stock

One of the best ways to print eco-friendly brochures is to choose 100% recycled paper stock. Not all recycled paper stocks are created equal, however, so it's important to understand the difference between paper stocks labeled "recycled," "recycled from pre-consumer waste," and "recycled from post-consumer waste."

  • Post-consumer waste: Paper that was formerly used to manufacture another product, then discarded in a recycle bin by consumers. This is the most desirable type of recycled paper stock, because if its materials wasn't recycled it would end up in a landfill.
  • Pre-consumer waste: Paper that is "leftover" from manufacturing processes. Because manufacturers automatically recycle this type of paper stock in an effort to save money, many do not consider it to be recycled at all. However, it's still better than non-recycled paper stocks.
  • Recycled: This could be a mix of post-consumer and pre-consumer waste.

The most eco-friendly brochure paper stock is comprised of 100 percent post-consumer waste. Keep in mind you do not have to sacrifice quality to be green: PsPrint, for example, offers an attractive 13 point matte paper stock recycled from 100 percent post-consumer waste.

Print brochures with soy-based inks

Many brochure printing companies use petroleum-based inks, which release a lot of volatile organic compounds into the environment during the drying process. Soy-based inks, on the other hand, release far fewer VOCs, which makes them an eco-friendly alternative.

Again, you don't have to sacrifice quality to print eco-friendly brochures: soy inks actually produce more vibrant colors than petroleum inks!

9273118098_404cb32b1d-Optimized

Choose an eco-friendly brochure printing company

Brochure production is only part of the process; you also have to be mindful of your printer's green agenda. PsPrint, for example, takes measures to reduce its carbon footprint at every step of the printing process. One way it does this is by having multiple printing facilities throughout the U.S. When you order brochures, they're printed at the facility closest to you; in this manner, shipping time is reduced, which results in less pollution generated by the trucks required to deliver brochures to your school.

Check your printer's eco-friendly printing policy to see what measures they take to be as eco-friendly as possible, and make sure you print brochures with soy inks on recycled paper stocks comprised of 100 percent post-consumer waste. Print eco-friendly brochures for your school now!
