Every school needs to print brochures to promote academic and extracurricular activities, recruit students, and otherwise share important information with students and parents. At the same time, educational institutions understand the need to be as environmentally-friendly as possible – it's important to do your part to save the world you're teaching your students to thrive in, after all. The good news is you can balance your need to print quality brochures without deviating from your green agenda. The following details how to print eco-friendly brochures for your school.

Print brochures on 100% recycled paper stock

One of the best ways to print eco-friendly brochures is to choose 100% recycled paper stock. Not all recycled paper stocks are created equal, however, so it's important to understand the difference between paper stocks labeled "recycled," "recycled from pre-consumer waste," and "recycled from post-consumer waste."

  • Post-consumer waste: Paper that was formerly used to manufacture another product, then discarded in a recycle bin by consumers. This is the most desirable type of recycled paper stock, because if its materials wasn't recycled it would end up in a landfill.
  • Pre-consumer waste: Paper that is "leftover" from manufacturing processes. Because manufacturers automatically recycle this type of paper stock in an effort to save money, many do not consider it to be recycled at all. However, it's still better than non-recycled paper stocks.
  • Recycled: This could be a mix of post-consumer and pre-consumer waste.

The most eco-friendly brochure paper stock is comprised of 100 percent post-consumer waste. Keep in mind you do not have to sacrifice quality to be green: PsPrint, for example, offers an attractive 13 point matte paper stock recycled from 100 percent post-consumer waste.

Print brochures with soy-based inks

Many brochure printing companies use petroleum-based inks, which release a lot of volatile organic compounds into the environment during the drying process. Soy-based inks, on the other hand, release far fewer VOCs, which makes them an eco-friendly alternative.

Again, you don't have to sacrifice quality to print eco-friendly brochures: soy inks actually produce more vibrant colors than petroleum inks!

Choose an eco-friendly brochure printing company

Brochure production is only part of the process; you also have to be mindful of your printer's green agenda. PsPrint, for example, takes measures to reduce its carbon footprint at every step of the printing process. One way it does this is by having multiple printing facilities throughout the U.S. When you order brochures, they're printed at the facility closest to you; in this manner, shipping time is reduced, which results in less pollution generated by the trucks required to deliver brochures to your school.

Check your printer's eco-friendly printing policy to see what measures they take to be as eco-friendly as possible, and make sure you print brochures with soy inks on recycled paper stocks comprised of 100 percent post-consumer waste. Print eco-friendly brochures for your school now!
