How to Promote Your Mobile App in Print

Posted: 11 Mar 2015 05:14 AM PDT

twitter-292988_640-Optimized

Launching your new mobile app is thrilling, but the excitement can soon wane as you realize no one is buying or downloading your app. As with any other product, physical or digital, you have to market your mobile apps in order to get the users the fuel sales or ad revenue. Print marketing can be a great mechanism for promoting your mobile app. The following details how to promote your mobile app in print.

1. Get a QR code

There are several ways print "tags" that can be used to give users mobile links to your apps, but the QR code is the most widely used. It's not sexy, but there's a good chance potential customers have a QR code reader already installed on their devices – who wants to risk losing customers by asking them to download a third-party app just to get access to yours?

QR codes aren't the only way people will find your app, of course – they'll also search app stores and search engines for your app's name, provided it is prominently displayed on your marketing materials. That said, many customers will use QR codes. Use a QR code generator that offers analytics so you can track response.

2. Develop targeted print marketing materials

Create marketing materials exclusively for promoting your app. Ideas include:

  • A direct-mail postcard sent to your app audience according to demographics
  • Banners placed at targeted events: concerts, sports, trade shows, festivals, etc.
  • Business cards, stickers, or flyers shipped in product shipping materials (you don't have to ship your own products – see if you can partner with a retailer who already sells to your target customer base)

3. Place your QR code on everything else

A call to action for your app coupled with your QR code can drive app purchases and downloads from your business cards, posters, flyers, brochures, booklets, and other print marketing materials. Be sure to include the major benefit your app users will receive by downloading your app.

For example, let's say a mechanic offers a free service schedule app that reminds customers when their vehicles are due for service. They might hand out a brochure or business card for the app along with every customer invoice with the following text: "Keep  your car running longer and avoid costly repairs with our free app!"

There's no doubt online marketing can help you promote your app, but print marketing is often overlooked as a powerful way to reach customers your competitors are not. Boost your app purchases and downloads by incorporating these print marketing ideas to promote your mobile app.

50 Shades of Green… and One Shade of Blue

Posted: 10 Mar 2015 05:08 AM PDT

If you're designing and printing St. Patrick's Day marketing materials, you might plan to incorporate the holiday's official color: green. But what shade of green is best for St. Patrick's Day? The answer is there is no best shade; in fact, designing St. Patrick's Day postcards, flyers, and other marketing tools in unique shades of green can help set your brand apart and command attention for your promotion.

This chart from Ingrid Sundberg's Color Thesaurus demonstrates the incredible variety green offers:

000508

Of course, there are many variations between the hues Sundberg picked for the book; which means you have far more than 50 shades of green to choose from. Designers often employ several shades of green into a single marketing piece, as evidenced by this Law Society poster:

st_patrick__s_day_poster_by_hayter-d38n9tz

If green is the official color of St. Patrick's Day, orange is its complement. Besides its association with Ireland, orange adds contrast to green. Like green, there are many different shades of orange that will work for your designs; combining unique shades of green and orange will make your promotions more attention-getting. Here's another chart from Sundberg:

000509

Another color closely associated with St. Patrick's Day is gold, and again there are many variations to choose from:

000510

If you want traditional colors, About.com's Jacci Howard Bear has an excellent post about St. Patrick's Day colors, including specific hues for Ireland's flag green, emerald green, shamrock green, and Kelly green. Sometimes the traditional hues are called for, but when it comes to marketing I believe deviating from the expected is a more powerful approach.

With that in mind, perhaps you should consider dropping green altogether for St. Patrick's original color, blue. While you have many shades of green to choose from for your St. Patrick's Day designs, there is only one color that bears his namesake – though there is some debate over which hue of blue is St. Patrick's, the original color associated with the Order of St. Patrick is said to be a sky blue, as depicted on the historical arms of the Kingdom of Ireland:

Arms_of_Ireland_(Historical).svg-Optimized

Ultimately, your choice of color can play a major role in the success of your St. Patrick's Day marketing campaigns. Colors command attention, and customers are intrigued by the unexpected. Consider incorporating unique shades of green, orange, gold, and blue into your St. Patrick's Day marketing materials to boost sales this March.

Caught In The Act – Car Door Magnets

Posted: 06 Mar 2015 06:00 AM PST

Big ticket print items such as posters and banners are a great way to promote your business, but sometimes it’s smart to take your marketing on the road. That’s where car door magnets come in. Print car door magnets, slap them on your car door, and now you’ve got a mobile ad that can be seen by hundreds or maybe even thousands of people (depending on how much you drive).

Dirt Road Trip knows what’s up. In fact, they sent us some photos of their car door magnets in action. We like action shots. If you printed something awesome with us, please let us know in the comments. We would love to feature your printed piece in Hot Off The Press. And we love seeing our products in the wild, so definitely send us a shot of your printed piece in use.

And now, let’s check out the cool customer designs that caught our eyes this week.

No Luck Needed with These 3 St. Patrick’s Day Marketing Ideas

Posted: 05 Mar 2015 05:28 AM PST

St. Patrick's Day is a great holiday for small business marketing, rife with themes you can employ in your marketing materials: leprechauns, pots of gold, clovers, and – of course – St. Patrick himself ridding Ireland of snakes. Regardless of your theme, successful St. Patrick's Day marketing depends on sound strategies that motivate customers to buy. Some strategies are better than others, and you won't need the luck o' the Irish when you take advantage of the following three St. Patrick's Day marketing ideas.

1.  St. Patrick's Day coupon postcard

Develop a St. Patrick's Day-themed postcard and send it to a mailing list comprised of those who meet your best customer demographics. Include a time-limited coupon or coupon code on your postcard to promote a special, can't-refuse offer. Direct-mail postcard marketing is a great way to get customers in your store or on your website to boost St. Patrick's Day sales.

In fact, direct-mail postcards remain some of the most powerful tools when it comes to driving web traffic; and coupon postcards have a long track record of helping online retailers attract new customers. They're tough to beat, especially when you combine a compelling offer with a well-targeted mailing list.

2.  Run a creative social media contest

St. Patrick's Day lends itself well to social media contests that ask for customer participation: photo and video contests, in particular, can inspire interest in your brand, help you promote a special St. Patrick's Day sale, generate more likes, and collect new email addresses for marketing.

An example for Facebook: Ask customers to post St. Patrick's Day-themed photos or videos that are in some way relevant to your business, let fans vote on the winning entries and simultaneously enter your drawing, and offer additional entries in return for shares. Consider boosting your post to your target audience to get more reach and participation. You'll get a lot of attention for your company, promotion of your St. Patrick's Day campaign, and to capture new leads. There are several contest apps available that make it easy to set up such a promotion.

3.  Find the pot of gold

If you own a retail business in a high-foot-traffic area, such as a mall, you can launch a pot of gold-themed St. Patrick's Day marketing campaign. Hide "pot of gold" stickers throughout your store, and have customers who find them snap photos to share on Facebook. When they show the photos at the register, they get a discount or other deal.

You can draw customers into your store with window clings that promote your "pot of gold" campaign and clover, rainbow, or leprechaun footprint floor stickers that lead customers to the game's instructions. Of course, don't make make the pot of gold stickers too hard to find – you want customers to participate, share, and buy!

These St. Patrick's Day marketing ideas can help you earn more attention for your brand and promote mid-March sales. Best of all, each strategy has a proven track record of success; no luck required (well, maybe just a little …).

How To Print Beautiful Wedding Invitations For Cheap

Posted: 04 Mar 2015 06:01 AM PST

Free wedding invitation design templates are available in the PsPrint Design Library

As amazing as your special day is bound to be, you can't avoid the fact that weddings are notoriously expensive. The good news is there are always ways to save money without compromising the aesthetic beauty of such a wonderful event. Wedding invitations are a perfect opportunity to save money (perhaps for your romantic honeymoon!) and still achieve a beautiful, premium presentation. The following shows you how to print beautiful wedding invitations for cheap.

STEP 1: Browse the PsPrint Design Library

The Design Library has hundreds of professionally designed invitations templates you can choose from for your wedding invitations. Don't see an invitation design you like? No worries – you can upload your own design, photo or other artwork, too. Best of all, the PsPrint Design Library is totally free to use.

000486

STEP 2: Customize your wedding invitations

Once you've selected your wedding invitation template or uploaded your own design, you can customize it with your own text, fonts, photos and colors. The Design Library includes built-in tools to make customization fast and easy so you can create a completely custom wedding invitation in mere minutes. Again, all of these tools are free to use.

000487

STEP 3: Print your wedding invitations

Finally, you can select your preferred printing options. Choose your paper stock (glossy or matte?) and whether you'd like to include envelopes with your order, among other options. Here, you can instantly compare prices between different options as well. All that's left to do is approve your order, and your wedding invitations will arrive at your doorstep in just a few days.

000488

So, how much will all this set you back? Well, you can print 500 custom wedding invitations on a thick, rich 14-point C2S cover stock for under $90 or under $115 with envelopes if you take advantage of PsPrint's 50 percent off discount.

Holding a budget-minded wedding doesn't mean you have to skimp on aesthetics; you can get the best of both worlds by saving money when you print beautiful custom wedding invitations – and maybe save enough to upgrade to the honeymoon suite.

Does Postcard Marketing Still Work?

Posted: 03 Mar 2015 05:31 AM PST

Postcard for PsPrint customer Best Friends Animal Society

Does postcard marketing still work? In a word, yes. The statistical data proves it. Consider that:

  • 52 percent of consumers read postcards
  • 23 percent say they respond to postcards
  • Postcard cost-per-lead ($54) is less than that of email ($55), print ads ($60) and telemarketing ($190)

The very fact that you'll receive direct-mail marketing postcards this week demonstrates that companies are, indeed, profiting from postcards. However, if you're considering a postcard marketing campaign the most important question isn't whether postcard marketing still works. The question you have to answer is: will postcard marketing work for you?

Will postcard marketing work for you?

image5greenheart

Though postcards are proven to be highly effective marketing tools, there's no guarantee any given postcard marketing campaign will yield desirable results. Rest assured that postcard marketing almost certainly can work for you, and you can vastly increase your chances of success by adhering to proven postcard marketing tactics including:

  • A compelling offer: The perceived value of your offer (by customers, not you) is responsible for 40 percent of your success. An attractive offer coupled with a deadline to respond motivates greater response.
  • A well-targeted mailing list: Another 40 percent of your success is directly dependent on the quality of your mailing list, which should be comprised only of those who match your best customer demographics.
  • Attention-getting design and captivating copy: Your postcard design must command attention at first sight, and your copy (text) must draw customers in to your offer, create desire with benefits, and deliver a powerful call to action. These items are said to constitute the remaining 20 percent of your success rate, and that 20 percent can make a significant difference in your overall return on investment.
  • Quality postcard printing: Postcards that look great and feel great in customers' hands make your brand seem more trustworthy; the good news is you can invest in premium postcard printing at discounted rates.
  • Repetition: Response rates dramatically increase when customers have previously heard of your brand, which is why repetition lends itself to postcard success. Develop a long-term postcard marketing plan to boost response over time.

There's no doubt that postcards definitely still work, and with the right strategy they can certainly work for your business. You don't have to reinvent the wheel to achieve success, either; incorporate postcard marketing best practices into your campaigns and you'll be well on your way to earning excellent return on investment.
