Print Calendars for New Year Marketing

Posted: 29 Dec 2015 05:00 AM PST

image[131]

Do you print calendars for New Year marketing? If not, you're missing out on a golden opportunity. Consider this: calendar printing represents a one-time investment that lets you market your products and services to a targeted audience year-round. Even though printing calendars might cost more upfront than some other marketing tools, their actual cost-per-view, if you will, is among the lowest in the entire marketing industry. That's why you should print calendars for New Year marketing.

Here's why I love calendars for marketing:

You can connect with your audience

By including relevant photos your customers will appreciate, you can lend a sense of solidarity between your company and their passions. Own a pet store? A calendar featuring cute kittens and puppies would be perfect. Own a digital marketing firm? A calendar featuring content marketing tips by month might be just the trick.

You enjoy constant exposure

Print calendars are referenced every single day, even in the digital age. And when customers look to your calendar, whether to appreciate the large photo on display or to mark important dates, they'll see your branding every time. That keeps your company top-of-mind when they need what you sell.

You enjoy well-placed targeting

Only distribute calendars to your customers and those who share their demographics. Well-targeted campaigns maintain low investments yet earn high response rates.

You can tell your story

Instead of simple photos, add some text that tells the story of your company, how you operate, and how you strive to offer the best products and services to your customers. Your story is your brand, and it's another way to connect with customers.

You can market year-round

To me, calendar marketing isn't just about branding (although calendars are powerful branding tools). It's also about finding unique ways to market to your customers year-round. Consider adding a new promotional coupon code good for a specific type of product or service each month of the year. Home improvement stores are great candidates for this idea – think snow shovels in January and rakes in October – but any business can think of a relevant to take advantage of such year-round exposure for direct marketing.

As you can see, calendars can be amazing marketing tools full of great content that influences customer decisions. There's no better time to print and distribute calendars than the New Year, so start planning your calendar marketing campaign today.

10 Holiday Movie Posters to Spark Design Inspiration

Posted: 26 Dec 2015 05:22 AM PST

image[131]

Need some holiday design inspiration? Look no further than holiday movie posters. Creative movie poster designs are excellent examples of compelling design with minimal copy. Movie posters have to convince people they absolutely must see a given film with just a quick glance, so they're powerful forms of marketing. You can emulate that sense of urgency in your own designs. The following lists 10 holiday movie posters to spark design inspiration, culled from Internet Movie Poster Awards.

1. A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas

Part of the magic of movie poster design is understanding your audience, and the Christmas edition of this wacky comedy series promises more zany adventures for its dedicated fans.

2. Prancer

A simple silhouette captures the imagination and creates childlike wonder for what's in store.

3. Gremlins

Visual design and copywriting go hand-in-hand to make this poster an all-time classic. The alternative version featuring Stripe might be even better.

4. Scrooged

It was the '80s and a wild-eyed Bill Murray would have sold any movie, but this poster endures for the tuxedoed skeletal hand.

5. Deck the Halls

Every movie fan can relate to having that "that neighbor," no matter which side of the fence you're on. Visually representing two comedic giants going head-to-head? Brilliant.

7 Last-Minute Holiday Marketing Ideas

Posted: 24 Dec 2015 05:30 AM PST

image[130]

Are you looking for an extra last-minute push to boost holiday season profits? Too late to pull together a print marketing campaign or place optimized advertisements? No worries! You can still generate business with the following seven last-minute holiday marketing ideas.

1. Hold a last-minute email sale

Send an email to your list with last-minute sales. You might offer discounted overnight shipping and even free or discounted gift-wrapping to make your sales attractive to procrastinating shoppers. If you don't have time to implement a store-wide sale, offer one of your most popular items at a discount and send to your niche list so customers can get the perfect last-minute gift.

2. Charity matches

Pick a charity that resonates with your customer base, then offer to donate a certain percentage of each last-minute sale. This can be a great way to drum up sales from last-minute shoppers as well as impulse buyers who are willing to make a purchase simply to support the charity – and they get something in return, as well.

3. Free calendar offer

Giving away calendars during the holidays is a great way to get your brand in front of customers the entire year, especially if you print calendars featuring images your customers will relate to. If you've missed your calendar printing window, you can instead invite customers to submit their mailing addresses to receive your calendars right after the holidays.

This idea cuts down on waste, as you're only sending calendars to those who request them; plus it bolsters your mailing list, as you can later send targeted direct-mail marketing campaigns to those who are already interested in what you sell.

4. Social media contest

Contests are a great way to gain exposure on social media, and you can launch a last-minute holiday campaign that rewards the winner with a freebie or major discount coupon good for last-minute holiday shopping. Photo contests (best Christmas decorations, perhaps, or most creative Christmas tree?), sweepstakes, and video contests all work well because they generate shares, which in turn increase exposure for your brand.

5. Free booklet offer

Booklets are powerful marketing tools, especially how-to booklets that deliver valuable information your audience wants to read. Similar to calendars, you can create a booklet request form on your website; after the holidays, you can print and send booklets only to those who have requested them – a well-targeted audience. Market your free booklet promotion via email, social media, and your website.

6. Unwanted gift drive

Everyone gets gifts they don't want for the holidays; you can offer a post-holiday discount to anyone who brings in certain unwanted gifts that can be donated to charity. Your partnership with a charity program will bring exposure, and you get to help those less fortunate get the items they need. Customers can unload items they don't want, then use your discount to purchase things they do want. Clothing, non-perishable foods, and toys are good examples of items that can be donated.

7. New year postcards

Finally, consider how you can help your customers in the new year. Then, send postcards with coupons or coupon codes good for January only. This is a perfect idea for resolution-based businesses: weight loss services, gyms, personal trainers, and more. It's never too early to begin planning next year's marketing campaigns!

It's tough to pick a favorite color palette generator tool; all of these have strengths and weaknesses. Still, if press I'd have to say Color Code, #25, is my favorite, given the ability to move your mouse to generate colors and simply click to save them to the screen. It barely edges out Color by Hail Pixel, simply because it doesn't assume you want a certain number of colors. That said, neither tool is good for automated color matching; for that, I prefer Palleton.

What's your favorite color palette generator tool? Let me know in the comments!
